Nationwide green college programs are popping up all over the place. This one, straight from the EPA: the Game Day Challenge.
Part of the EPA's WasteWise program, the challenge is "a friendly competition for colleges and universities to promote waste reduction at their football games."
Throughout October, schools will run waste reduction programs at a home football game, track their recycling and waste streams, and the EPA will use that data to rank the schools—winners will be announced in November.
Any U.S. college or university with a football program can participate—so anyone who's interested should get to work. Registration is open until September 30—more details on the EPA's Game Day Challenge site. The EPA will even help you out with some useful resources.
Great idea—although hopefully schools won't limit waste reduction to just one game. Getting football (and other sports) to go zero waste year-round—that's the real challenge.
