Having been knocked out in the first qualifying stage of the Champions League for six seasons and just a year ago to tonight’s opponents, it should come as no surprise that Real Madrid will resort to anything to get past Lyon.The Spanish giants have laid bare their desperation for all to see by releasing a motivational video for their home support ahead of the Champions League last 16 second leg.
Featuring Cristiano Ronaldo, Iker Casillas, Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos, the Bernabeu is urged to provide their support – “Este partido tienes que jugarlo” – “The game you have to play.”
Quite what the players made of this advert, where each one points to the screen, is unknown, but it may well ratchet up the pressure for a match where Real Madrid are favourites after the first leg 1-1 draw.
