National Geographic Channel is taking its viewers to 'Planet Football' journey. With the soccer fever rising, this Nat Geo series premiering on May 21 at 9 pm will take the excitement to the next level with some exciting, fun-filled, well-researched programmes on football each night.

This series promises to keep the viewers glued to their TV sets and includes programmes like 'History of Football' that traces the journey of this sport right from 2000 BC to date; 'FC Barcelona Confidential' that takes the viewers behind-the-scenes to one of the biggest football clubs in the world; 'Footballers & Beauty Queens' looks at the Peladão, a unique soccer tournament and beauty pageant that takes place in the middle of Brazil's Amazon rainforest. National Geographic Channel also takes its viewers to a twelve city tour of the German host cities of World Cup 2006 in its series 'World Cup Cities'; all this and more in Planet Football awaits viewers this Football season.

The History of Football documents the cultural history of the world's most popular sport, and seeks to understand its lure, its power and its passion. By tracing football's history from the year 2000 B.C. to the present day, it examines the fascinating evolution of a sport that is now an international phenomenon. State-of-the-art re-enactments from the European Middle Ages, Ancient China and the Aztecs, as well as historic matches in Italy and England take viewers on a voyage of discovery into the cultural history of football. This episode will be aired on May 21 at 9:00 pm and June 4 at 1:00 pm.

World Cup Stadiums is an hour of exciting, informative episode about World Cup Stadiums that is a must watch for every football fan. This episode will be aired on May 22 at 9:00 pm and June 4 at 2:00 pm.

FC Barcelona Confidential takes one to the behind-the-scenes to one of the biggest football clubs in the world. In June 2003 a group of professionals, led by lawyer Joan Laporta, took over FC Barcelona. Their starting point couldn't have been worse. The club was technically bankrupt, the team had been humiliated on the pitch, and for four seasons they had won nothing. With exclusive access to the inner workings of the club this film observes Laporta's team in their first year in power. This episode will be aired on Tuesday, May 23 at 9:00 pm and Sunday, June 4 at 3:00 pm.

Footballers and Beauty Queens: In the Heart of Amazonia – Peladão, set in the Peladão, is a unique soccer tournament that takes place in the middle of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. It involves thousands of footballers, and hundreds of beauty queens. The sprawling city of Manaus is the backdrop to a competition to find the best amateur team in an area the size of Western Europe. Yet this is just the half of it. Every club – and there are hundreds who enter – must also submit a candidate in a parallel beauty pageant whose winner is declared Peladão Queen. In Brazil, beauty involves competition and football involves artistry. With all its wondrous absurdities, its beauty queens and footballers, the Peladão offers an original look at a little known part of world-famous Brazilian soccer. This episode will be aired on May 24 at 9:00 pm and June 4 at 4:00 pm.

Football fever#1 - Natan's Story, witnesses the hold football (soccer) has on Brazilian native Natan, whose fanatic behavior dictates how and where he watches each game. For this ultimate fan, football is a way of life that includes celebrating victories in city streets, filled with the intensity of like-minded football fans. This episode will be aired on May 25 at 9:00 pm and June 4 at 5:00 pm.

Football Fever#2, where a 35 year-old Israeli family man Yalon rediscovers his passion for football (soccer) and journeys to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the lead up to the World Cup. Elsewhere in Brazil a remote island community watches the games on a small television set powered by a car battery and a gas generator, connecting with the rest of the nation through Football. This episode will be aired on May 25 at 9:30 pm and June 4 at 5:30 pm.

World Cup Cities, a new twelve-part series, presents the host cities of the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Munich, Nuremberg, Leipzig, Berlin, Hamburg, Hanover, Dortmund, Gelsenkirchen, Cologne, Frankfurt, Kaiserslautern and Stuttgart are the focus of each episode, giving viewers a glimpse of the cities' traditions, their histories and the stadium where the matches will be held. The series includes interviews with the key figures from the cities, the organizers of the World Cup event, and some of the most admired and well known football stars of all times, including players from the famous Bundesliga. Featured personalities include German players Kevin Kuranyi and Cristoph Metzelder, Brazilian Marcelinho Carioca and Vinicius Bergatin, Argentina's Javier Pinola, Czechplayer Marc Rosiscky, Uruguayans Gustavo Valera and Dario Rodriguez, France's Bixente Lizarazu, Paolo Guerrero from Peru and the legendary German stars Franz Beckenbauer and Uwe Seller. This twelve part series will be aired from Sunday, May 28 to Friday, June 2 with two half an hour episodes each night at 9:00 pm and 9:30 pm respectively.
